One of my favorite parts about my job is listening to our partners tell the stories of their success. Disasters come at them right and left and to hear the pride and excitement in their voices as they explain how they saved their clients’ bacon is incredibly satisfying. Sometimes the stories are big. Sometimes they’re smaller, but they’re always great. Clients are in trouble. Their businesses are in danger. And our partners swoop in to save the day. We talk a lot about heroes around here because that’s what a good MSP is. A hero. You save the day.
Case studies and success stories are a great way to for us to share those stories with the world. Obviously, they’re useful for us as well because they show our solution in action, but in my opinion, our role in telling your story is as the radioactive spider to your Spider-man. We make great things possible in disaster recovery, but you’re the ones who actually do them. Our goal in creating success stories and case studies is to give you something you can use to sell your business to your clients, something that shows off what makes you special. And if we’re a part of what makes you special, then it’s a win-win.
So what are we looking for?
To be honest, we’re happy to share any success story you want to tell, but the reality of resources being what they are, some stories will catch our attention more than others. That doesn’t mean we won’t get around to telling every story we get. It just means some stories will take longer to produce.
That said, the stories that really excite us are the stories that allow us to show off the breadth of our solution. Stories that involve our partners solving unique problems, or focusing on specific or unusual situations.
Do you work for clients that have specialized backup and disaster recovery needs (healthcare or finance, for example)? Then we definitely want to hear what you have to say. Have you encountered a disaster that is a little off the beaten path (like forensic recovery)? We’d love to hear what you did about it.
Like I said, if you’ve got a story, we want to tell it, so don’t worry if all you’ve got is a run-of- the-mill server failure. To your client, it was a big deal and in their eyes, you were the hero. That’s always a story worth telling.
But what’s involved?
We produce two kinds of partner-related stories: case studies and success stories. The difference is really a matter of scope, as well as the way we produce. We’re moving away from single-partner case studies like the ones you’ve probably seen if you’ve browsed our site. Instead, when it comes to a single partner, we’re focusing on success stories, which are presented here on the Recovery Zone and are faster to produce and easier to share. Case studies are longer, more topical, and involve multiple partners (we’re doing one about Hurricane Sandy now, for example). They are laid out, downloadable articles. You’ll also find print versions of them at our shows. If your story seems to fit into one of those, we’ll let you know.
In either case, the process is pretty straightforward.
- We contact you to get your permission and set up an interview.
- We interview you. We generally record these interviews to make sure we capture exactly what you have to say, but if you’re not comfortable with that, we can come up with something else.
- We write the story.
- We send it to you for review. We never publish anything without your permission.
- We publish the story.
Once the story is live, you’re free to use it however you want. We can send you a version that you can post on your own site or you can link to ours or whatever you want.
So what do you think? Wanna share your story?
If you do, send me an email at mat.rayback at storagecraft.com with a brief summary of your story and we’ll get something set up.
