Report: Companies lack data management programs for mobility

April 26

Mobile devices have become increasingly popular within the enterprise sector during the past several years, but a new report from nonprofit AIIM revealed that not all companies are taking the appropriate data management steps to support the greater use of smartphones and tablets.

While 67 percent of respondents to a poll said they believe mobility is now a key area of their business, only 24 percent admitted they have mobilized content so it can be accessed on devices.

“The next step of moving content onto mobile devices can be challenging for businesses,” Doug Miles, director of market intelligence at AIIM, said. “It requires capturing data as close to the point of origination as possible and making it available to whoever needs it, wherever they are, in the shortest time possible.”

Backup and recovery software is something else that organizations will want to think about when supporting an enterprise mobility program. Devices today are likely producing, storing, and accessing critical business data, so decision-makers will want to be sure that the appropriate protection measures are in place.
