If you haven’t thought about how the cloud affects your business, it’s probably time to start. For all the buzz on cloud computing, the actual statistics of adoption are still rather low. Certainly, the number of SMBs adopting cloud services is growing, and growing quickly. But we’re still in a state of flux, where both users and providers are trying to figure out exactly the best way to leverage the cloud.
The only certainty for now is the inevitability of continued growth. Cloud acquisitions by large IT companies continues to grow. For now, it doesn’t look like the emergence of cloud services is going to stop, and so if you haven’t figured out your part in this cloud drama, now’s the time.
One trend in all of this that’s obviously of great interest to us at StorageCraft is the surge of growth in cloud backup. According to a Microsoft study from 2011, cloud adoption would grow to 39 percent of businesses.
A Spiceworks State of SMB IT report shows that more businesses indicated they’d adopt cloud backup solutions than any other area. Overall, cloud adoption has more than tripled since the second half of 2010.
These statistics make it clear that the cloud is something that can’t be ignored. StorageCraft is currently working with a number of great partners, like Symform and Artisan Infrastructure, to provide a cloud component to its business continuity solutions.
In the meantime, how has the cloud affected your business? Do you use it? What do you use it for? Have you had a positive experience with it? Let us know about your experience in the cloud in the comments. And if you haven’t had that conversation yet in your business, maybe it’s time you did. Whether or not you think the cloud is right for you, it’s best to make that decision with your eyes open.
